Ogun 07:01
OGUN He came to this place They’d forgotten all the rules They didn’t greet strangers Didn’t greet even themselves They’d forgotten his face Ogun god of iron and war He didn’t get a drink There was nothing fit to drink Nothing decent to drink They’d forgotten his face Ogun 'Ogun onire oko mi' When a god feels disgraced By his own people He’ll have something in store God of iron and war His shock his grief For what he’d done He knew it would follow Before he’d even begun He didn’t discriminate Men women and children All treated the same They were all to blame 'Ogun onire oko mi'

Cooking 05:00
COOKING She’s cooking, cooking something, something against me Protect me from her rage I look at where I live; what it says about me She turns me against me

Images of War Keep forgetting that it’s peacetime Images of war always on my mind Violent strangers closing off our streets They’re possessed by some demon we’ve offended And they pick up you old man amongst those they blame I’m in the audience Only in the audience Always in the audience I know great books and films Now the testing days are here They didn’t prepare me for this kind of fear They’re gonna desecrate all we hold dear They drag a young boy onto the stage Make him smash the old man in the face With iron bars Breaking down his dignity Break apart his dignity Breaking up his dignity And we’re not allowed to leave this place We’re gonna pay the biggest price For our disgrace Violent strangers are here to stay Recruit gangs of women and men From those who think they’ve got nothing to defend Make ‘em think and speak the same As the Demon And they teach them whose to blame Better find somewhere to run to now Before someone mentions my name

Judgement Day Took my little daughter upon my knee To tell her all about the way they treated me Had to fold my arms slowly walk away Thinking in my mind trouble gonna come to you someday Rollin’ and a-tumblin’ cryin’ all night long Thinking all about those who done me wrong Early in the morning came a knockin’ at my door I said “hello Satan, I believe it’s time to go” Me and the Devil walking side by side Me and that old Evil Spirit looking for a bus to ride Cos I took possession over Judgement Day And I’m taking away the right of you to pray

Voices 05:26
Voices What are these voices? What are these voices? Talking to me Strangers’ voices strangers’ voices talking to me “TAKE NOTHING FOR GRANTED” they’re talking to me And the smell of my fear will let all the witches know that I’m here Alone and frightened and their familiars with the faces of children Will be looking at me Whispering voices outside my walls talking to me What are these voices? Talking to me Got to get to the root of this terror stalking me Strangers’ voices talking to me talking to me talking to me talking to me talking to me talking to me talking to me

about

The Voices album stems from three sources: Yorubaland, Cuba and the Mississippi delta, The binding factor is Africa and the indigenous religion of West Africa, Orisa.
Saki and Rabiu Ayandokun come as purveyors of an ancient musical tradition that is neglected and unfashionable in its place of origin. Their European collaborators come steeped in Cuban musical forms and the blues. Not one of the band has ever visited Mississippi, but somehow the restless spirit of Robert Johnson haunts this particular crossing of paths.
